Always decorate the inside of the house. Especially the part of the room that you walk into first when you enter the house. This does not have to be something big, maybe a bowl of fruit with nuts, Holiday dish towel and glove muffins. You string artificial holiday flowers around a table or fire place. Add something red to the living room. Holiday coffee mugs. These things can easily be stored away until next year which you can then add one more item.

Merry Christmas !

I have to play Christmas tunes, drink hot chocolate in front of the fire and I get the cinnamon pine cones and put them around the house. I have put of a few decorations to help and wrapped some presents to put under the tree this always helps me. I would love some snow though too...I will honestly say that would be the one thing that would really get me in the spirit for the holidays.

Basically I begin the holiday season on Black Friday. Shopping in crowded malls with beautiful decorations is a great way. That weekend I begin to wrap gifts so while I am doing that I play a few holiday songs. Then the following weekend my family and I put up our decorations indoors (christmas tree etc.) and then two weeks before Christmas we put up our exterior decorations.

I got into the holiday spirit this year by adopting 2 little angels from the local Angel Tree and getting each of them a pr of jeans, a shirt, a jacket, and something for their hair (which wasn't on the list). Made me feel good because I could afford to help somebody that would do without this year because last year I couldn't afford much of anything.

I have an 8 hour playlist of holiday music on my iPod, so after Thanksgiving dinner, I crank that baby up and decorate my very small house with small decorations and candy canes. No tree for me. A normal one would be too big, and one of those smaller ones would be destroyed by my cats.
Then on the weekends I break out the Christmas DVD collection and spend most of one whole day on the weekend sitting in my chair with my fleecy red blanket with snowflakes on it and watch Christmas movies all day. Just yesterday I watched "White Christmas" and "A Christmas Story", and assorted animated classics.

Tune into a radio station that is playing Christmas music. I think we're getting older when we recognize that Christmas marks the passing of another year. Probably that's why some ppl get depressed round this time of year.
Just play it by ear. Be sure to remember that Christmas is Jesus' birthday. So if you didn't get all the presents you wanted and the Christmas cookies didn't turn out like you expected, those things are just manmade additions to Christmas.

We go and chop a tree from the neighborhood tree farm and decorate it. We also play old favorite Christmas music. Have lights outside the house. Last night we made salt dough ornaments - tonight we'll paint and hang them. Next weekend we'll make cookies, decorate them and wrap them for gifts along with our homemade fudge.

Mostly we focus on doing things together and it seems to all work pretty well.

Shopping, listening to Christmas CD's, driving around looking at lights, have a holiday party, give to a charity or donate your time is the BEST way to get you in the mood :)

Happy Holidays!
