And on the way home, you kill someone, is that fair to say, " I needed to get home" to that persons family?
Why not call a cab or have someone come get you. Or walk home?

Even worse kill yourself!

What if someone hit you while drunk and told you, "i needed to get home" what would you do or say then??

No there is not.

If you had nobody to drive you - call a cab. Besides - if you had nobody to drive you home you should not have been drinking in the first place.

There Is No Excuse For Drunk Driving.

Some of these answers really scare me. And the biggest thing that scares me is there are really people that think this way!

THERE IS NO EXCUSE AT ALL FOR DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE! A really good check to see if it is a good excuse is to ask yourself: "If a cop pulled me over and I used that excuse, would he/she let me go?" "Will the family of the person I kill in a accident while I were driving drunk tell me it was OK because of this excuse?" The answer to these questions will always be NO! If for any reason you answer either of these questions "yes", it just means you are too drunk, and you shouldn't drive.

I don't care where they needed to go and when they needed to get there by. THERE IS NO EXCUSE FOR DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE. None at all, period. It's just a lose-lose situation--for the drunk driver and the person they hit/kill. It's the stupidest thing anyone can do. How can someone live with themselves after they kill someone while they were driving drunk. It's not worth it. If you're in such a hurry to get somewhere, get a friend/family member to drive you, or take a bus, or call a cab.

It had better be a life threatening emergency, and even then, you would not be excused from the harm committed while making that emergency run. If your loved one needs to get to the hospital immediately and you are the only one available, and you are drunk, what good does it do your loved one if you get in a crash while trying to get them to the hospital? Then you both need help instead of just one.
I say, don't do it, ever. Call 911 if the emergency requires it.

There is never a good excuse for breaking the law. We all have 'emergencies' and 'reasons' and we are all 'special' sometimes.

I believe we should scrap the notion of 'vehicular homicide' and call it what it is - murder. No separate rules, no special treatment. If you knowingly drink then drive and cause an accident, that's the same as taking a loaded gun out and firing it at someone.

No-lost a family member who drank, drove and hit a couple of young fellows in a pick up truck. They lived , though sustained life time injury (deafness in one-ear) Knowing that he might lose all of his possessions and loved ones-(wife threatened divorce-he lost his job-went though public ostracism-strife with children)- he gave up and gassed himself to death in his garage. After looking down on his dead young face....early 40's, I would say there is no excuse to drive while under the influence-or when overtired, or yakking wildly on cell phones
