$1.46 => £1
$22 => 22/1.46 = 2200/146 = £15.07
Yes, I would say that long division is the best if you do not have a calculator on hand.

However, I generally approximate the value instead of obtaining the actual. I will approximate $1.50 => £1, so $3 => £2.
For a price of $22, on dividing this by 3, I can mentally get 7 1/3 and then I multiply this by 2 which will be 14 2/3 = £14.67 which is close enough for me to know the rough amount that I'll be spending.

try this it works with all sorts a stuff:

sterling = dollar
£1 = $1.46

so

£2 = $2.92
doubing both sides
and

£4 = $5.84
£8 = $11.68
£16 = $23.36
etc just double both each time till u get close to your goal for a rough idea...
u can get clever to b more exact as follows without a calc
got the nearest amount below your target $22 in this case $11.68
and u can work up the column adding the amounts on both sides to get your answer so:

£8 = $11.68
£4 = $5.48
__ ______
£12 = $17.16

see we gettin closer to $22
so keep going but another 5.48 goes over 22 so use next one down
£12 = $17.16
£2 = $2.92
___ _______
£14 = $20.52

then again
£14 = $20.52
£1 = $1.46
__ _____
£15 = $21.98
wont get much closer without a calc.
if u got a calc then

1/1.48=£sterlin/22
(1/1.48)/22=sterlin which is £14.86
close enough ?

Long division is indeed the best way.
22 / 1.46 will give you the answer.

1/1,46=0,685
