I have been on Ortho Tri Cyclin for almost a month now and started it the first day of my period. I have been cramping and spotting now for the last 3 weeks and I am going crazy! I have also had to urinate more frequently. Does anyone know why?

Is there any way that you could be pregnant? Were there times you doubled up your doses or forgot all together? Spotting on pills is normal, but the frequent urination isn't as common. It just sounds like the wrong dose for you. You may need a mono-dose pill, or one with just one level of hormone in it. Possibly the ups and downs of the hormone levels in ortho-tri is what's bothering your body.

PS if you went on Ortho Tri for acne, they ALL do that. Ortho was just the smartest brand and marketed the pill for that. And for some girls, that trick doesn't work...or makes their skin worse!

If you started it on the FIRST day of your period it is NOT abnormal for you to be spotting. You have to give your body at least 3 months to get used the pills. You may have irregular spotting for those 3 months. But your body will be on track after that. But because you started your pills on the first day of your period this is good for one reason, first is because you don't need a back up method during the first month of your pills. BUT, since you started taking it during the first day, your body still needed to have a period, but with the pills it was stopping the period. But your body still tries to have a period. SO... you will keep spotting. Your body just needs to get used to the pills. Give it at least 3 months. Stick with it ok.

The frequent urination shouldn't have anything to do with the pills themselves. But if you are having alot of cramping it could be irritating your bladder. You could go to your PCP and make sure you don't have a bladder infection. If that comes back ok then just try some motrin for the cramping.

Hope this helps.

my friend went on the generic version of ortho tri cyclin...we did a lot of research after she hadnt started her period for a while and she was having really bad cramps...the research we found included a lot of information about women having the same problems on it...google it and look for personal experiences...we found a lot of people that had bad cramping...and even getting pregnant on it.

With it being your first month on the birth control, your body is probably adjusting to the new hormones. Personally, I started spotting on one form of birth control pills and my doctor changed me to a different type. I'd talk to you doctor.
