In the 70's we used mini casette players to tape the teachers lectures for referance for writing notes or reports. Do kids still do this today?

Many universities now record lectures and post them to the web for students to download to computer or Ipod.

Many universities won't allow it. The policy of academic freedom applies here. It operates on the idea that the classroom should be encouraged as a two-way system of communication where students can feel free to ask any questions or make comments without having to worry about their words being used against them in some manner later on (non-attribution). Allowing students to tape lectures defeats this purpose. Now, that doesn't mean it doesn't happen, but if the university has a policy against taping lectures and a student gets caught doing it, the student is facing possible expulsion.

Sometimes. I know they sell them in the campus CVS, however I have never seen anyone bust it out during class. My friend tried it for a few days, but I guess she figured that it was just easier to pay attention the first time. Also, in the college I was in, the big lectures were recorded, but not the smaller ones. I am in a different college now and my classes are small so they don't record it.

Not in Belgium. We don't have time to listen to all these tapes again. We take notes during the classes, and we learn those. When you missed something, too bad. Our professors don't record either, so when you missed a class, you try to find another student willing to let you copy his/her notes.

Yes, but yeah, digital recorders are more common now.

Most kids I know, even if they had the recorders, will never listen to the recordings.
