Very cold. But that all depends on what your use to. oh ya--the roads are horrible. Last winter we had a storm and it took me an hour to drive 5 miles because there were no snow trucks clearing the roads even hours after the snow started falling.

Chicago can be freezing or mild. The first week of December it snowed and temps averaged around 15-20. However this week it is supposed to be in the 40's. Chicago is great because you get all four seasons. Yes, some might be shorter than others, and some might be a little extreme, but they are nice.
Chicago winters are nice.

typically, when it is cold, it is REALLY cold. but for the most part i think it's been mostly mild. it snowed in october briefly...then it was mild if not oddly warm the rest of the month. then pretty mild november too. on 12/1 we had our first major storm and the snow is mostly melted now. we had a cold front come in a week ago...bitter bitter cold! we will be in the low 50's, upper 40's this week. who knows what next week will be like.

Its like a roller coaster, ups and downs. It can be 40 one day and only 1 the next. Very windy at times, and calm a few hours later.
In other words, prepare for the worst.

its brutal, can get bad. But since we wrecked the ecosystem, the world is now warming up and warmer than normal so it should get better as the years go on.
