Decent, polite people are found everywhere. I have travelled the entire country many times. It's amoung the city vs. the country folks that the difference lies. City folks are on guard all the time and wonder what you want when you say hello for no reason but its the right thing to do.
Another possibility:
Do you have 20 piercings, baggy pants, green hair, and a Che Gueverra t-shirt ?

From a northerner's perspective, southerners aren't the friendliest people in the world. The times I've gone to the South many times I have said something like "good morning", but all I get is a blank stare.
I should ask a question on Y!A: "Why are Southerners so strange?"

Northerners don't have as much time as southerners for chit chat. lol, its the difference between being landlocked or coastal. Some people just take longer to be friendly.

I disagree with your perception completely! I have met MANY friendly people from Wisconsin & Minnesota, for example. Not so many friendly people from the south!
