While driving yesterday the check engine light started flashing and now my car is idling rough. Additionally, it is not accelerating as normal and is rough especially just after switching into a new gear. To kick me while I am down the window got stuck going up today and won't go up, although it looks like it is trying. Any ideas as to what could be ailing in my car or how much it could cost? Thanks!

Just another detail. I went and looked at the window again and it appears the rubber seal thing came off slightly on the edge closer to the window and is jammed with the window; hopefully that'll be a little easier to take care of and not be something serious!

The window indicates your electrics are in trouble, and if your honda is vtec, that would explain the rough engine, as your valve timing may be stuck at the higher setting (your vtec will be controlled by an actuator requiring electrical power like the motor for your window). Did it feel good at higher revs? (4000). Anyway, there's no way to tell without seeing the car. Contact Honda before you drive anywhere, as you could be damaging your car every second you drive it.

A flashing Check Engine light for any car 1996 and up means the engine has a severe misfire. The onboard computer system OBDII found on all U.S. Cars 1996 and up was designed to notify the car owner of a severe misfire by flashing the Check Engine Light. The rough idle is most likely also caused by the misfire. Solution: Change your spark plugs, check the spark plug wires and also check your distributor cap and rotor. Most often this problem is caused by a bad spark plug or bad spark plug wire. If your check engine light is now stuck on and not flashing, the OBDII system has recorded a fault code in the memory. When you connect the car's computer to a OBDII compatible scanner, it will tell you what cylinder is misfiring. The stuck window may be cured by applying some white litheum grease from a spray can along the egdes of the window where it slides up and down your door. Only a little is needed.

Before driving it more, check the obvious.

Engine oil level.
Coolant level.
Fan belt condition, and tension.

The check engine light indicates a problem that the computer recognized. You could take it to some auto parts store to read the computer codes, and then determine what needs attention.

P0420=catalyst system efficiency below threshold. replace your "catalyst converter" some catalyst converter on japanese cars is located at the exhaust manifold, just beneath, then going to the flexible exhaust pipe. check the exhaust manifold if the catalyst is there. but before doing it, better check your engine, tune up if necessary. install correct sparkplug. clean well the throttle body. you will see a adjusting screw on it . made of brass material, adjust it to open thus allowing more air to come into the engine, could clogged or out adjustment.( from close position, give 3-4 turns to open, after cleaning the throttle body.
