use distrobution for 3(x + 2) = 3x + 6
use foil for 5x + 2(x + 5)
first 5x * x = 5x^2
outside 5x * 2 = 10x
inside 2 * x = 2x
last 2 * 5 = 10
combine like terms 10x + 2x = 12x
5x^2 + 12x + 10 = 3x + 6 set equation to = zero by subtacting 3x & 6 form both sides
5x^2 + 9x + 4 = 0
use quadratic equation to solve for x, ax^2 + bx + c = 0
x = -b + or - sqr(b^2 - 4ac)/2a
x = -9 + sqr(81 - 4(5)(4))/2(5)
x = -9 - sqr(81 - 4(5)(4))/2(5)
2(5) =10
-4(5)= -20(4) = -80
x = -9 + sqr(81 - 80)/10
x = -9 - sqr(81 - 80)/10
81 - 80 = 1
x = -9 + sqr(1)/10
x = -9 - sqr(1)/10
use a calculator to get the squareroot of 1 then divide by 10 and add and subtract the quotient to -9

Distributive property:
5x+2x+10=3x+6
Combine like terms:
7x+10=3x+6
Subtract 3x on both sides;
4x+10=6
Subtract 10 on both sides:
4x=-4
Divide 4 on both sides:
x=-1
Check:
5(-1)+2(-1+5)=3(-1+2)
-5+2(4)=3(1)
-5+8=3
3=3

-1 is the answer. 7x + 10 = 3x +6 which equates to 4x = -4 then x would have to be -1
