Mabye your pediatrician did an examination and found phsycially evidence there may be problems. I cant see any doctor with his head screwed on properly suggesting classes like this at all unless they found there was a concern. The only other thing I can think of is that he finds her to be so advanced he wants to study it so he is suggesting these classes for his own benefit..or else he wants her to have her skills nurtured for the sake of your childs talents being encouraged because she is very advanced. Otherwise he thinks your full of crap and finds your daughters behavior and weight an issue and doesnt think shes developing normally..not like this option is very nice but it would make a little more sense.

Most of these doctors don't even have kids themselves. From what you've said I think she's doing the things that should be expected for a 5 month old.
Do get all worried, not every child does things at the same time.
My son never crawled, but did start walking at 7-8 months & he didn't get any teeth until he was 15 months.
As long as your baby is healthly then I say you don't have anything to worry about.

This does sound strange, but maybe the doctor saw some warning signs that he or she didn't clearly explain to you. If I were you, I would call back and ask what specific milestones she is failing to meet and why she needs to attend special classes. Is she underweight? Does she have any medical conditions? It is hard to second guess a doctor based on the information here, but if you as a mom aren't feeling right about it, you should go with that. You may also want to consider switching pediatricians if you are having communication problems and question this one's diagnosis and recommendations.

That does sound odd. If you feel she's developing normally, I would seek a second opinion. That's a LOT of therapy he wants to put her through and it likely won't be cheap!
One thing...if she was born premature (<36 wks gestation), then the doctor would be going by her gestational age, which is 40 wks minus the number of weeks early she was. And if that IS the case, that might cause her to be somewhat behind other 4 month-olds.
Do they really HAVE "food intake therapy"?? I know that's one thing MY kids never needed!!

At 4 1/2 months old she is already crawling, trying to speak and starting to stand I would leave her alone. As long as she is doing everything a typical 4 month old can do, and is fine for height and weight I wouldn't worry.
My advice would be to seek a second opinion. Any good doctor will not argue with you doing so.

Yeah that does sound really weird, I would get a second opinion! Your daughter is more advance than my son! Not to mean to the doctor but maybe he is looking for a way to get more money?! Your daughter sounds adorable happy and healthy, I would find a new doc!

the doc expects more ??? like what your daughter being able to read by now ???...i personally do not know of many 5 month olds who are crawling,or even trying to stand let alone being able to do it for a few seconds..maybe what the doc means to try and get into a program such as gymboree or a mommy & me group so she will have other infants to somewhat interact with,or kindermusik programs and stuff like that...i did mommy & me for 2 years and it was great..my daughter got to play,i had some adult interaction...just remember if you do join something every baby developes on their own so don't compare yours to someone elses.....if my ped suggested that i would be looking for a new doctor

I would say she is ok, maybe get a second opinion.
You can also try and stimulate her at home as well. show her bright colors and have her watch your mouth closely as you speak, and do so slowly.
Socially, maybe find some classes you can take together. mommy and me classes are offerred at the YMCA and at a lot of other gym places. She can get the social interaction she needs and maybe you can meet some new friends too :)

I don't find anything wrong with this at all. All children are different. I have four children ages 18-2, I know the space between but anyways, you should consider yourself blessed.
Let her alone and let her live and grow as she is. Who knows, she may be the next einstein, perhaps the doctor is scared that someday she'll diagnose him as "dummy". Let her be who she is, why set her up for a lifetime of trials with therapists?
Come on mommy, love her and let her.

IF this question is not a joke, he is a phycho!!!
Social interactive deficit? Excessive crying? Lack of food classes?
Seriously, if this question is not a joke -- find another doctor before he hurts your child. He is not playing with a full deck of cards upstairs.
