Can anyone tell me if there is an agency/contact from which I might receive free trees ( Grant?) to stop erosion and act as a wind/noise break on property against a highway?

Where you are can make quite a difference, but one of the best sources for trees is trees.

If you know of a lot of nice trees and you can find out who is the owner, they may be able to tell you where they got them, or more likely, the trees themselves will be propagating and you can get (with a little work) as many as you want of these sprouts.

Alternatively by either air layer or even just putting a fresh stick in the ground (depending on species and location). In good soil I have seen fence posts grow into sizable trees.

Contact your state Forestry dept., but unless there is an emergency/dangerous problem, they probably won't do anything for free.

The Arbor Day foundation will give you free trees, but the ones they give out are 6" tall. Won't help you out for quite a few years.

I looked into this once. Unfortunately, it seems its almost easier to move the highway than it is to get the trees needed for planting to resolve this type of issue.

Call your Forestry Commission... they sometimes give away trees for soil erosion...
