Here are a few things that I do when I am impatient to get through a sore or raspy throat that help pretty darn quickly, if not instantly:
**The Lion Pose(or sort of)- this is based on a Yoga technique that I have adapted somewhat. Do it somewhere private because it is quite hilarious-- some might say hideous-- but it works...
*Sit comfortable upright on the floor or in your bed or wherever
*Center yourself with a couple of deep breaths that you breathe in through your nose and out through your mouth (feel the breath moving rhythmically from your diaphragm and up)
*Concentrate on getting this right: Simultaneously (at the same time) open your mouth wide and stick your tongue out as far as it can go towards your neck; roll your eyes up as far as you can; Roar like a lion (it will sound more like a sick person's roar, but the idea is more important than the actual roar noise... just imagine yourself roaring and put as much gusto into it as you can). Relax. Repeat a few times
I don't know how this work-- maybe it relieves tension and releases the inflammation but it really always helps for me.
Do it several times if you need to at various times of the day.
Also, drink a large glass of filtered water with a drop of pure, unadulterated peppermint essential oil in it (the unadulterated is important-- only use pure essential oils that can be ingested. Go here to see:http://tinyurl.com/ykxyuk
Alternately, drink a cup of warm water with a drop of pure peppermint oil added to it (and Stevia for sweetening if you wish).
NingXia Red is the highest antioxidant drink on the market (wolfberries, blue grapes, blueberries, apricots, and two essential oils in each shot) and will help get you through the sore throat faster, but more important, will help you build your immune system so that no germs will live long enough to inflame your throat! Go here to check it out>>>http://tinyurl.com/ykxyuk
Sugar, chocolate, processed foods, and especially Dairy Products and eggs will all make a sore throat worse, so swear off that stuff while you are doing the Lion pose and drinking your pure peppermint drink. Good luck!

Take warm water and add plenty of salt to it. Gargle with it every few hours, and doing it before bed will really help.
Why? Because the salt gets rid of the bacteria in your throat. Raging bacteria is what causes your sore throat, and so when the salt wipes out the bacteria, you feel so much better!
If a stuffy nose came with the package, avoid nasal sprays!! They often go down the nasal passage and go into your throat, and it just fuels the bacteria in your throat!

Bee Royal Products has an energy tea but it works on sore throats instantly. My whole family swears by it. We all keep a supply of the stuff. Tastes pretty good too it has green tea (an anti-oxidant), bee pollen and freeze dried raw honey. We get it at beeroyalproducts.com.

Gargle for 20 seconds with a mixture of 3 parts TCP to 1 part water. Tastes a bit weird, but it will give you almost immediate relief.

I don't know any home made, but Airbourne is the best stuff ever. It works perfectly. All you do is drop it into a cup of water and drink it and you'll be feeling fine within no time.

THIS WORKS!
OK...
To one mug of hot water... add
1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar
2 TBSP honey
one squeeze of lemon (to taste)
stir and drink while still warm.
I used to sing professionally and am prone to sore throat.
This helped every time, but it tastes gross... just add more honey if you need to.
