hi i was wondering what is all the big deal about GSM phones? why are they superior? what's the advantage? just looking for more information.

GSM phones are cool because you can use them anywhere around the world. You may use your phone anywhere in the world where four band cell signals are used (pretty much in every country except really remote locations)

The biggest value is that it is a GLOBAL standard so that if you go to mexico or another country, your phone will likely work (when I go to Mexico, my phone rings there just as if I was home... - of course the following month I get the phone bill ! grin)
Because of the extra band (4 bands are monitored not just 3) you may also get better coverage on your phone too)
