Originally a 'trouser' or 'pant' was the covering for one leg and were worn as two garments. When they became joined they bacme a 'pair' of trousers.

Usually anything that we call a pair that isn't refers to something that has a pair in it, such as you stick two legs into a pair of pants, or underwear. A pair of pliers has two moving parts that need to be used together.

Because a pair of pants or underwear is for the pair of legs that fit them.

haha soo true. but a pair of pants for exmple has place for 2 legs unlike a skirt where its just one bit whole. therefore its not a pair of skirts when ur talking abt only 1 skirt.
