Is it interfereing with School or social life? If not, then just let him play, but not too much, make sure it does other things (hangout with friends, does homework, maintains good grades etc.) If he plays them for more than ten hours everyday or something like that, try introducing him to other activites. Most teenagers, espeically boys, will do this. Eventually he'll find other hobbies, enter college etc. and though his love for video games may not go away but his over obession for it will die out and it'll become a favorite hobby.

Yokihana makes a good point. If he is still doing pretty well in school and has somewhat of a social life then there really is no problem in my opinion. But if his grades are slipping, then ration off his video game time. Or have some kinda system like, if you spend this amount of time doing your homework and studying, then you can spend this amount of time playing video games. And hell, if there's still a problem, just take it away from him. You don't need to take the whole system, just the power cord or something.

Don´t worry. He will grow out of it eventually. I used to do nothing but play the games all day long becuase I was really shy and didn´t want to meet other people. Eventually he will find friends who share his interest in the games and they will start to do other things together. Taking them away would make him curl deeper into his shell. You could suggest other things though such as books or movies.

If it is not affecting his homework, or chores then I say let him be. If it is, then I suggest for every chore done he can earn a chip. Each chip good for 30 min of play. Same with homework or good grades.
