Can anyone explain the concept of DOMAINS in magnets. What makes a magnet more attractive than others?

domains, in elements, (i.e. iron) became magnetized when they are oriented with the earth's magnetic field for a long period of time. for example, your filing cabinet is made of, uhm, let's say iron. you palced it in a corner of your room and left it there and never moved it for like 4-5years. the domain inside the iron cabinet gets acquinted and fixed to the earth's magnetic field. this is why it becomes magnetized. so in short, your filing cabinet at first was not a magnet, and then through time, it eventually became one because its domain became fixed.

i.e.

domains before it became magnetized..--> <-----><-----

domains after a long period of time N <---- <---- <----- <----- S

it became a magnet with a north and south pole bec domains beca e fixed with one direction. tht is, the earth's magnetic field.
