I've had this car in warmer weather before, and this has never happened previously. Is there something I can do to avoid this?

Frame of reference: yes, I do know what cold is. I moved recently from California to Chicago, and we've had 2 degree Fahrenheit weather over here recently.

YOUR TRANSMISSION OIL IS REALLY THICK WHEN IT IS THAT COLD ITS LIKE HONEY ALMOST WHEN ITS KINDA WARM SO THAT IS WHY IT FEEL SO STIFF.. TRY LETTING THE CAR WARM UP BEFORE YOU DRIVE IT

HI,,,

I don't know the year and model your car is But its the Lube...
Checking whats best for your car 1st Then Changing the Lube will help. It is recommended on most models to change manual tranmission lube at 30k 50k 60k miles depending on Driving coniditions...

Also Temp does affect the lube.... They call it Weight.
Check out Lubes for sure but also Check your clutch if the disc is worn down might slip lightly on the pressure plate when cold causing the feeling of not going into gear very easy... Really slipping..

Mobil Delvac Synthetic Transmission Fluid 50 is something to look into or Amsoil... Ouaker State has some also... Most any National brand has what you need...

Most brands have the Temp chart on th back of them...But not all
Like the Oil bottles...

Same as automatic. Unless you have problems parking; period. Get the driver's training manual and read it. Methodology is always the same. I never use mirrors. I was born with a "neck". The manual tells you to turn your head. If you can't do that then you should not drive.
