why is mexico so poor and the poverty so bad?

Why would anyone think you were being funny or sarcastic? Is your question authentic and well meaning? I hope so. If I were poor and in poverty in Mexico and I discovered people were describing my country's conditions in jest, I would be stunned.
Now, if I discovered that people were genuinely concerned about my country's welfare, that, too, would stun me. You may be stunned to discover that other than posting questions on the Internet, you can do more to satisfy your concern.
I, too, have often wondered why the social conditions exist as they do in Mexico. But, more importantly, I observe how indigenous nations respond to social disorder. I believe that it is these conditions which test the true character of a people.
If I were as concerned as you say you are, I would put the question to people who have the answers, the Mexican government. I think that the fate and welfare of a people are best put to people who can do something about it. Somehow, I don't feel the their people or government will get a fair shake on the 'Answers' site.
So, I strongly urge you to contact the Mexican authorities to see why it is that their country is embedded in poverty. Perhaps you could truly find satisfaction in learning just what it is you can do for your fellow man.

The people of Mexico are a mixed race people. The indigenous part of Mexico has no tradition of education, and the gov't has a history of discrimination against them. The money is concentrated in a small fraction of the people (2% of people). This 2% is mostly white and the rest are either idigenous or mixed. The ruling party, for many yrs., has not tried to improve the lot of the indigenous and poor people. The lack of education and the discrimination are the source of the poverty.

The government steals more money than the people can put out. Not like this country where they use their brains a little more when they steal the money.
