look in device manager

I would say that if your computer was manufactured after June 2003, the chances are it is USB 1.1. My desktop was manufactured in May 2003 and is USB 1.1 but I know someone who got theirs in August 2003 and is USB 2.0.

Easy way to work it out: right click My Computer on the start menu or on the desktop.
On the Hardware Tab, select Device Manager and open it. Scroll to the bottom of Device Manager and extend the Universal Serial Bus controllers option by clicking the '+' next to it.
If you can find any component within that section with the word 'Enhanced' in it, then you have USB 2.0, if not, you have USB 1.1

Hope this helps

USB devices will work in either although a USB2 device will be slower in a USB 1 port. If you plug a USB 2 device in to a USB 1 port it will tell you that it will work but slower. USB 1 will not be any faster in a USB 2 port

If you have a fairly new PC it is probably USB2.

Goto the Device Manager in Windows (My Computer, right mouse click, Properties, Hardware tab, Device Manager), In the Universal Serial Bus Controllers, if you see a device as "Enhanced Host Controller" that would mean that it's a USB 2, if you see it as USB Root hub or "High Speed" then it means that it's USB 1.

Usb 1 drives are found on older computers where as all new computers (going back 3years) are equiped with the newer faster usb2 port. Some manufactors state a usb2 is need to attach say an external hard drive which can cause confusion. As long as your computer is relatively new i'd say your ports were usb2.

Gordon beat me to it...

If you put a USB2 device into a USB1 port...XP will tell you that the device would work faster if it were placed into a usb2 port.
