Start early by riding the Trolley! I had been in San Diego x 2 months earlier this year. I bought 2 maps prior ot my stay, however, they are both incomplete. I bought a 3rd one, it is more complete but you need a magnifying lens.
San Diego is so spread out. It is only when i rode the trolley that I pictured out its totality. There are bus stations in every trolley station. Try to park your car safely.
Go to the last American exit at San Isidro, there is an outlet store there. Be careful if you are going to Tijuana!
Going to San Diego Zoo or SeaWorld would be whole day. You have to choose 1. If you choose anyone, start the day early, they have scheduled shows at the Sea World. Buy bottomless drink for the whole day which will also serve as a souvenir.
Bring sunglasses or hat when you go to both. You have to go from 1 place to another. Even if you ride the double decker tour at San Diego Zoo. There are times when it is quite hot but a bit cold. Bring jackets. Another thing to visit at Carlsbad is the Legoland.
Go to Balboa Park, there are many museums there. Go first to the website to see what to expect there.
Dont miss the Colorado bridge! It is one of the tallest in the USA. It gives a spectacular view of the area. Did you know that the bridge was given an award because of its structure? Hotel Coronado is one of the most beautiful hotel not only in the USA but also in the world.

Only one day in San Diego? I suggest starting your day at the Harbor and the Embarcadero. See the ships at the Maritime museum, look though the shops at Seaport Village and then head up to the Gaslamp District. Maybe have lunch at one of the many restaurants and take a stroll through Horton Plaza (but don't get lost...that mall is crazy, expecially on X-Mas Eve). Int he afternoon I would head over to Balboa Park and spend an hr or two looking at the buildings and maybe going to the Aerospace museum (if it's still open that day).

I use to live in San Diego and the zoo and Sea World are fine... but it is stuff you have seen before.
*I love Balboa Park, but I loved Balboa Park for taking walks and basking in the sun, not really a place to spend your day in SD.
*Downtown is great! Theres are fun shops, restruants, and people! You can check out the Gaslamp District (thats more hoppin at night though). Check out Sea Port Village and the Horton Plaza. This time of year, theres an ice rink down stairs and next to the ice rink is a minature model of downtown San Diego (well worth looking at!)
*If you can, try to make it over to Coronado and check out of the view from accross the bay. Its a cool site!
*While you are in Coronado, go to the Hotel Del and check out the shops and put your feet in the water!
*Finish up your night at the top of the Hyatt and have a drink... you can see Coronado all lit up (its really cool!)
The Horton Plaza has free parking (for 3 hours with validation) and so does Sea Port Village (for 2 hours with validation) and downtown meters are free after 5 or 6.
Have fun while you are there!

Visit SeaWorld, and the Zoo. Park you’re car in the gaslamp district and just walk at night time! Allot of stuff to do their. Also Cordando Beach is really nice. You can make a pit stop in Tijuana while you’re down here as well. That’s always fun and interesting.

There are lots of things to do in San Diego...depending on your interests. You can visit the historic town of Julian, the zoo, Balboa Park, watch a great sunset, dine in a romantic restaurant, bicycle, kayak, hike, go wine tasting, and more.
