what kind of basketball should I buy?

My boyfriend loves to play and needs a new ball for outside. I looked up some on sites but there's tons! what's the difference! I dont' want to pay more then $40 for a ball any suggestions on whats good?

any particular brand?

go to wal-mart get you a basketball for ten dollars

dont get a cheap rubber ball thats like 5 dollars those suck and nobody thats any good plays with them. You can get a real good ball for 40 bucks. Check the ball yourself grab it and if it feels kind of sticky to your hands then its a good ball it should say on the box if its an indoor/outdoor ball. Go with spalding brand thats the best. Dont get the ball that has a pump built in it those are not that good as the pump gets in the way at times

Your best bet is to pick one that is just for outside, it will be made out of rubber and will be more durable and last longer than an inside ball or a multipurpose ball.

My personal choice would probably be a Spalding TF-1000. That's my all around favorite to play with. But a Spalding Z/O Excel may be better suited for outdoor use.

Get him the "Never-flat" basketball. It is around or less than $40. It was made for outdoor use and recommended by Spalding more than any of its other line.

round ones work the best, you can always pick up a really cheap square ball, but they suck, just go to any department store, or sporting goods store, and look at the leather balls, stay away from composite, leather is the best
