While I have my cable modem...the icon in the tray it shows it off on the modem...the icon shows traffic...out going and in coming while the MODEM IS in the OFF State....when i check the firewall.....it shows traffic in/out.................... WHY?

you say unplug.....the power or the cable.....i say this cause on this NEW computer.... just hooked up for 2 weeks...i ran a spy/malware scan and it showed a win32.trojan downloader.small this is odd cause nothing has been added to this computer since firing it up for the first time 2 wks ago.....any thoughts? Thank you in advance for your responses.

i suspect you may have a static ip which has your modem constantly connected (i.e. instant access)
so while you may be "offline" you are still recieving your connection.
they maybe a disconnect option that you can click to turn it off

When you turn off your modem or computer it is never turned completely off. This standby state is supposed to make startup faster. I unplug my modem to ensure it is completely off.
