When I walked out of the train station on arrival in Venice, I felt like I had just walked into the magic kingdom. It is surely on of the most beautiful cities in the world. The buildings are ancient, there is so much history, the food is great, and the shops are interesting. Get a detailed map of the city and start walking. You'll find treasures around every corner.

At or shortly after sundown, particularly in the winter months, a quiet falls on Venice with tourists getting back to their rooms and the locals returning to their domicile on the mainland. This is the only time to truly lose oneself in the calli, away from the beaten paths of Station - San Marco and the major museums.
The darkness and light surrounding the Riva degli Schiavoni where maybe for an instance you can close your eyes and immagine Venice at the height of its splendor and the garb people wore in the 17th/18th century. If you can find an mp3 or cd with Rondo' Veneziano - or Vivaldi you can further isolate yourself to enjoy and make your own this beautiful city. Frankly having lived and seen Venice covered with snow I must say there isn't anything like it. I enjoy it most at sundown or in the evening. Make a stop for a 'cicchetto' and a glass of wine at a 'bacaro' or osteria.
Nothing original can be said about Venice - as it has already been said. Enjoy it.

The best way to experience Venice is to pay the extra cost of staying in the city overnight. The vast majority of visitors are in Venice during the day, and retire to cruise ships or the area around Venice at night. My wife and I love exploring Venice at night, with very few people around to spoil the fun.

The best thing about Venice is just being there! It's a place everyone should see at least once. It's so amazingly different from most other cities you can visit and you often don't realize how much so until you leave it.

Wander the streets at your leisure and have a wonderful time!

I was three times in Venice, during the summer that's right, and it seemed like un endless carnival. It's a city full of charm.

The people! They are quaint. And charming. The way they dress, even on an ordinary day----looks like they were going to a very special affair. I was sort of disappointed about the canals. I found them dirty.Venice is like an independent state. I think when one enters the city, your passport gets stamped. That's what I remember. I went to the airport by myself very early in the morning, as people were on their way to work. I rode the bus to the airport. Most of the people were reading BOOKS THAT early in the morning. Wow, what a cultured place.
