I had one at 5 weeks 4 days. You don't see much this early on but it is a great way to date the pregnancy since all babies develop at the same rate until the 13th week. So your doc probably wants to use the u/s to get a EDD for your baby.
All you really get to see is a blob on the screen an possably the heartbeat.
The best u/s are at 18-24 weeks--you can find out the sex and the baby isn't too big to get a good pic yet.

I had one at eight weeks, I had no clue what anything was. Don't be surprised if they have to go in vaginally to get a more accurate picture. Also, the earlier you have a ultrasound, the more accurate your due date is. I was told that the due date they gave me would be accurate within 5-6 days. Good luck!!!

I had my first ultrasound at 7 weeks. A little wand-like ultrasound was used - put up inside of me, not the one that they do on the outside of your stomach.....a little uncomfortable at first, but then its fine. Could see the little one in there - so tiny! Got my first picture then too. Very exciting the first time.

First off, Congratulations! I had one at 7 weeks along, with a wand and some gel on my tummy. It is the sweetest thing...mine looked like a little lima bean [that is what we called it for the first few months...lol] Also you will get to see the little heart beating, really makes it special! Plus you should be able to get your first pics of the little babe. It really puts all your worries to rest at that moment, and you realize that is YOUR baby. Nothing to worry about, I hope that all goes well. God Bless!

Baby doesnt look much like a baby at 6wks but you can usually see/hear a heart beat and you'll notice the big black spot on the screen that is the yolk sac where your baby is comfortably hanging out, growing all his/her body parts. Congrats and good luck ... I'm currently 10wks2days so i remember my 6wk sonogram pretty well as it was the 1st time I saw my little jelly bean.

I had an ultrasound at 6 weeks 1 day! :) It was trans-vaginal. The baby looked like a little cocoon with a yolk sack. We saw the heart beat and heard the heart beat! For me (a first time mom) it was amazing!
The nurse also looked at my uterus, ovaries, and whatever else and took measurements...

if you are in 6 weeks normally the doctor does not recommend till 12 weeks. but ir u r a special case then u could do. i did it in 12 weeks n then 5 th month.
well u will get to hear the heart beat for sure. but the baby will not be seen since its going to be tiny.
any ways good luck and i m sure u will do good.

one more thing -- try not to do too many ultra sounds. normally the time for ultrasounds are 12 weeks , 5th month and then 8th month.

I had one at 7 and 1/2 weeks and I saw a really tiny baby (I almost couldn't see it) and a little heartbeat.

Unforunately there isn't much to see...sorry. It kinda looks like a little bean and it doesn't have any arms and leg buds yet...so there isn't much to see. Your next ultrasound will be much better!
Good luck and Congratulations!
