I'm 12 years old and the the first few days of my period are the worst, what can I take or do to ease the pain.(other than Midol)

You can take midol but if that offers you no relief try ibuprofen. You can take 2 tablets Evey 6-8 hours. Apply a warm heat pack to your pelvic area to give you some relief. Also, I don't know if you have seen those commercials for those heat packs that you can wear under your clothes, you can get them at your local drug store, those also work great and work long hours. If this helps then keep this up.

If you notice they are getting worse, talk to your mom. Some people suffer from really bad cramps and could be hereditary. I know you are only 12 but if they are really bad, you may need a prescription or may even need to start taking birth control pills to help with the pain. I know... birth control pills sounds scary but when young girls have really bad cramps, if you also have heavy bleeding, it may be something to consider. These pills are NOT only for contraception. They also helps with heavy bleeding, they also help with bad cramping, women who often get ovarian cysts they help with alot of things. So just make sure you talk to your mom about it. Try the ibuprofen (Motrin, Advil) and see if that helps with the hot packs.

Remember there are many things that can cause alot of pain with cramps, ovarian cysts, edometriosis so just make sure you keep track of what your body is telling you if things don't get better. Make sure you talk to your mom/dad about how you are feeling.

Feel better!

Keep taking midol. If that just isn't working for you, then try taking some Tylenol or Aleve. They work well. Also, get a heating pad. I'm not sure if you have one, but you might get your mom to buy one from Sears or Walmart for about 12 bucks. That helps ALOT with the cramps. Good luck.

2 ideas that worked for me:

Eliminate sugar and refined carbs from your diet (while increasing veggies, complex carbs and protein, of course) and get regular exercise. For assistance with this part, go to www.radiantrecovery.com.

Take a Reiki class (first level/degree). Give yourself a Reiki treatment every day and also use your Reiki to relieve menstrual pain when it first begins. I found that 20 minutes of Reiki (applied when the pain began) took care of the whole month's pain.

The good thing about these 2 solutions was that both of them promoted healing in my internal organs, too. When I was using prescription and over the counter drugs, they were damaging my liver, kidneys and stomach while they were in my body.

Good luck! I'd love to hear from you if you adopt these 2 recommendations.

Try taking a warm bath to release the tension caused by cramps also taking 2 advil and then alternating when the dosage is over w/ tylenol has helped me in the past. Also, those warm patches you can get for your back or muscles, those help a lot too. Try to refrain from caffinated drinks and foods b/c those can help to make your cramps worse.

Why don't you ask your mom, she could probably give you better advise than some people on Yahoo.
