That depends on where in the EU and where in the USA. The EU extends from Finland in the east to Ireland in the west, covering three time zones. The USA extends even further - from Maine in the east to the western Aleutian Islands in the west, covering six time zones.

Incidentally, French Guiana, Martinique and Guadeloupe are technically part of the EU. FG is three hours west of Ireland and M & G are four hours west.
