Hi

Radio 4 long wave soon becomes distorted, then vanishes.

If you have short wave, you can pick up BBC world service.

Some French radio stations give travel bulletins in English a few times per day.

There is English radio in Cote d'Azur.

It may be worth researching digital radio ?

You should be able to pick up Radio 4 for a few hundred miles into France, apart from that, nothing that I know. However there is a station that broadcasts traffic bulletins in english every half hour or so, its frequency is posted on roadside signs on major roads.

If you have a radio that can get the BBC World Service, then you are in business.

We used to force south from Paris all the way all the way down to Carcasonne and then over the Spanish border. in case you prefer to verify the Pyrenees you would be greater helpful flying as that's a stunning view while the snow remains there.
