There are very view universal truths, but one I believe in is "theres an exception to every rule".

Only a narrow minded person would believe our system is perfect. Its inevitable that flaws, in the constitution itself, should eventually become evident. I say this, being a constitutionalist!
I believe the 1st amendment provisions for religion is just such an area.

In fairness to the founding fathers, it appears they were later aware of the imprefection when Islamic ships raided American merchants and the doctrine of "infidel inferiority" became evident through diplomatic laisons. Our father were outrages and miffed and even considered the falliblity of the first amendment after learning about Islamic doctrines.

Its time we correct this...

nobody seems to realize that it was the muslim pirates that were attacking our ships even then. this was the beginning of our navy when we needed trade route protections. When a religions main goal is to not allow freedom they cant have the freedom to do whatever they want. its not logical. People really need to understand how bad sharia law is and its goals.

Am I correct in thinking that you advocate that Islam not receive protection under the first Amendment?

If so, then you really need to lay off the wacky weed.

Freedom of religion (and freedom FROM religion, if one so chooses) is one of the things that makes America great. Peaceful coexistence between people of all faiths is one reason people come to this country. Millions of Muslims are American citizens & have never been involved with terrorism: why punish the innocent? And may I remind you that the last time an American launched a terrorist attack against other Americans, that person was Timothy McVeigh, an alleged Christian? Any fair-minded reading of world history will show that Christians have demonstrated as many violent tendencies as any other religion.

No, I don't believe our system is perfect. But our freedom of religion is a beacon of hope to the rest of the world that people of all faiths can coexist peacefully. It's a freedom that's worth fighting for, not against. If you want to restrict religion, why not move to an Islamic-run country & see how well it works?

So what is your advice, repeal the first amendment? Add a constitutional ban for Islam...gay marriage and anyother controversial subject?

C'mon, ALL FUNDAMENTALISTS CAN BE EQUATED WITH: the same rednecks and ignorant chumps who think true Christianity is for white men. There are nutjobs in EVERY culture, religion, government and society. Deal with it. Fact is, ONLY IN AMERICA can women attend the same Islamic service as men, without being kept in separate rooms. Also, women are speaking out WORLDWIDE at the Fundamentalist versions of a religion that delegate females, children and non-observers as second-class people.

The greatness of our system of gov't is the fact that it is FREE FROM RELIGIOUS BIAS. Granted, not totally since religion=$ and $=influence in Americanized democracy, but as many have said "[Americanized] democracy is the best form of government, until a better form is found."

It's a wake-up but we don't allow free expression to sacrifice people or other violent parts of a relegion. I don't think we'd turn the other way if they started stoning women for adultry just because of relegious practices. I'm sure someone is going to try and press the issue but even with freedom there are restrictions. I think they need to start cracking down on those limits because it's crossing the line to totally repressing others that this country was founded on.

Religion? Sorry, but I do not consider killing innocence, in the name of a following, a religion. I call it a lunatic cult. In this case a massive lunatic cult.

WHEN A ISLAMIC CLERICS STEPS UP AND ANNOUNCES THAT THE SUICIDE BOMBINGS AND THAT THE TERRORIST CRAP IS AGAINST ISLAM THEN MAYBE. UNTIL THEN BURN IN HELL.
THE PEACEFUL RELIGION THAT KILLS OTHERS THAT DON'T BELIEVE. WHY AREN'T ANY PROMINENT MUSLIMS STEPPING UP TO DENOUNCE ALL THE GARBAGE THAT GOES ON ? ARE THEY AFRAID OF BEING KILLED BY THEIR OWN PEOPLE? WHAT KIND OF NONSENSE IS THAT . IT'S ANTIQUATED AND HAS NO PLACE IN TODAY'S SOCIETY.

Moslems have religious freedom here, just like every other religion. They are completely free to worship as they choose. It's when they started killing us that the trouble began.
