Grand Theft Auto IV (GTA IV) is the upcoming tenth installment of the Grand Theft Auto video game franchise, announced to be released by Rockstar Games on October 16, 2007 for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. It has been confirmed that GTA IV will run on the RAGE game engine, the same engine that powered Rockstar Games Presents Table Tennis. The game is being written by Rockstar president Dan Houser.

Lazlow Jones, who has played the voice of the radio presenter 'Lazlow' in GTA III, Vice City, San Andreas, Liberty City Stories and Vice City Stories, is labeled as part of the cast for the game. Also listed as part of the GTA IV cast is Navid Khonsari
Some things that seem to be offered in the new GTA will be:
The ability to save your cars so that even if you leave them or explode them, they will be back at your garage.
The ability to throw things at people who are chasing you.
Snow.
Ping Pong mini game.
Even MORE cheat codes. (hehehe)
The graphics will be improved with lots less Glitch and Blue Heaven places.
Rag Doll Physics.
The game has been announced for XBOX 360 and PS2.
They have been working on GTA 4
Rumours and speculation

* On December 17 and December 21, 2003, Take-Two Interactive registered the trademarks GTA: Bogota and GTA: Tokyo.[7] Some people have assumed this could be a hint towards the next Grand Theft Auto game, though it is possible they were actually reserved for the making of GTA: San Andreas. While the trademarks were not used for the series' fifth installment, the possibility remains open that GTA IV could take place in one or both of the two cities. Some fans of the series note, however, that ever since Grand Theft Auto: London, 1969, no actual city (or city name) has been used in a game and that Rockstar North will most likely continue this tradition, although the cities of Liberty City, Vice City, Los Santos, San Fierro and Las Venturas have been based on New York City, Miami, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Las Vegas respectively. A recent poll in Electronic Gaming Monthly showed that a majority of readers would like to see GTA IV take place "Across the U.S.A.".[citation needed] It should be noted that Electronic Gaming Monthly is a US based magazine, and therefore does not necessarily reflect international opinion.
* In December 2004, games industry trade paper MCV claimed that "sources close to the project" suggested "the team is looking beyond the US for the setting of the next title, with Europe a strong contender[8]." Furthermore, in December 2005, The Inquirer also claimed that GTA would be set in London, and that the game would be split into sub-regions of London, for example the East End, West End and City of Westminster.[9]
* It is possible that GTA IV will be a MMOG, due to network programming job positions that have been posted on Rockstar North's website.[10] Considering the content of the previous games, however, a 100% online game is unlikely as certain tasks would be impossible. When asked by Game Informer magazine about an online GTA game, Sam Houser mentioned Everquest as a possible source of inspiration: "just giving people deathmatch, or even a cooperative deathmatch - that's not GTA." Ironically, the developer of the original Grand Theft Auto, David Jones, is working on APB, a MMO clone of Grand Theft Auto III, due 2007.
* Although a PC version has yet to be announced, all the games of the series (except those released for the PSP), (GTA III, Vice City and San Andreas) were released for PC within a year of their console releases. (See the release date for the PC version of the previous versions)
* The fact that the voice artists announced as featuring in GTA IV have both previously featured in USA-based GTA games might suggest that GTA IV will also be set in the States. However, many countries worldwide are subjected to American culture and media, so a non-American setting is still quite possible.
* CG Environment artist Craig Kerr has recently been employed by Rockstar North and several images from his portfolio are available online, possibly giving some hint as to the graphical quality that might be seen in the next GTA installment. While the environments shown appear to be based on the United Kingdom, Kerr states that they were the works that got him his job. They may be an indication of the current locale for GTA IV. [11]
* Rockstar have announced that they have "no plans" to release a port of Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories on the PS2. This is most likely due to the fact that the majority of Rockstar's development resources are now being focused on the development of GTA IV [12] and the poor response to Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories being ported to the PS2.
* According to an interview between Nintendo of America's president, Reggie Fils-Aime, and MTV, Nintendo is willing to put M-rated content on the Wii. He also stated having talks with Take-Two Interactive, the parent company of Rockstar. This has led to some speculation that the next GTA game could possibly be available on the Wii as well. [13]
* Rockstar has recently announced the upcoming release of a new game, L.A. Noire, which is based in 1940s Los Angeles, which would suggest that GTA IV is unlikely to be set in the same era or locale, contrary to certain internet rumours.
* A lot of gamers speculate that new screenshots and information may be released by early 2007, considering that in recent GTA games, the first batch of information was released between March and May.
* Some speculate that the game will take place in the fictional Carcer City due to the numerous references to the city in the San Andreas installment in the game.

Well all that is known is that it will be set in the present time, which won't be so interesting...look at GTA 3. I always prefer the retro set games like Vice City Stories (1984), Vice City (1986), San Andreas (1992) or even Liberty City Stories (1998). The only thing i'm really looking forward to is the new play abilities that the new GTA will offer
