Where I live, when my hispanic neighbors move into a better neighborhood, marry a white man, or graduate from college they come back with blonde hair. Not just any blonde hair but with the highlights and matching eyebrows. I don't have a problem with people changing their hair color. They look gorgeous just as themselves but I don't think they just do it for fashion.

White is right and brown get down. The closer to European you can claim to be of pure Spanish blood not poor Indian blood.

Self hatred and many years of indigenous subordination.

Some people of Hispanic, Mid-Eastern or Mediterranean origin are drawn to the Anglo-Saxon look or way of doing things. A few believe that this is a "step up" for some odd reason, hence the blonde hair/blonde brows/blue contacts/lipo, etc. On the other hand, have you noticed how many blondes appear in Italian paintings? Perhaps, this is similar to the way in which many South Asians venerate light complexions or light eyes as signs of beauty. I see it all as part of a kind of inferiority complex.

Because they want to be defined as close to Caucasian as possible. Then as soon as they open they're mouths that's when people are not fooled. I tell people with light skin or Hispanics that I know, when this subject comes up I always tell them, that if the line ever get drawn, they will be on the same side as all the other minorities. So if they want to walk around and play pretend, then let them. Prime example: Cameron Diaz the actress. She never plays the part of a Hispanic woman like Jennifer Lopez, Selma Hyak, Christine Aguilar (sings in Spanish). It's like Cameron Diaz doesn't really care for her own heritage. Maybe I'm wrong. I'm just pretty much going by the films that she makes. Some Blacks and Hispanics just want to be other then what they are. They want to pass as whites and to me seem to be ashamed of their heritage. I absolutely love being a Black woman and if I had to die and come back I would still want to be nothing other then a Black woman. I'm gorgeous, and funny, hell---I'm the bomb and everyone else is a firecracker! LOL And that's just my feeling about that!

Lets clear the air here It's not because they want to look white, they are very proud women of their heritage! It's not about money, if they got a better job first off more power to them and second it's only made it possible for them to achieve a look that they've been wanting to try but maybe could not afford. They just like the look, whether they like the streaks, or just dying it all blonde they simply like the way it looks. I don't mean to sound rude but why do so many people have to put them down for dying their hair that color? It's their choice to do that, just like it's a white person's choice for getting a perm when they have naturally straight hair. Is it now a crime to color your hair?

Some Hispanic women when they come into real money, dye their hair blonde because it is the color of the gold that they have just acquired.

I think you just might be reading into it too much, I'm Mexican and my dad's side of the family is all very well off and all of the women on that side are still brunettes, except for my Grandma who is a natural blond (yes Hispanics can be natural blond es.)

Also I don't think Cameron Diaz not playing Hispanic women means she's ashamed of her heritage. So just because she has Hispanic heritage she has to play characters that are obviously Hispanic. It shouldn't define the roles she chooses. Why can't she just play characters that are interesting because of personality and forget about worrying what race they are.

A lot of non-hispanic women dye their hair blonde when they come into money too. It's just pretty to them.

I consider myself "white," even though I look like my Spanish father. If I came into money, I'd NEVER dye my hair blonde. On some folks, it just doesn't look natural or even attractive. I guess they think guys like it. Whatever!

Even whites do it. Ever heard of the blonde trophy wife? Usually a second wife, after you divorced the first wife who raised your children and helped you build your career or business.
