If you read up on it you will find that if you don't own too much you can do it "pro se" for like $100 without a lawyer
Its kind of scary but I managed to do it when I was 20 or so.
You get the form from a book from the library, type em up. File and pay the money, Notify creditors. They stop calling almost immediately. Then like a month later you get dressed up nice and conservative and go for your trial.
