I'm looking at a driving ban of a year or more when I go back to court for drunk driving and no insurance. I'm probably going to get a sentence too as I already have a suspended sentence. Just wondering if anybody knows if the ban would run for the time you are in jail or just start when you get out?

Typically, the ban runs from the date of conviction.

It starts as soon as you are convicted i.e the day of the court trial. Don't put yourself in jail yet, they sometimes give you a suspended sentence, as the jails are being kept for real criminals. But for god sake don't drink and drive again, it's not worth it mate, i know.

Unless it is specified by the court, a driving ban will take effect from the date it is handed down.

Silly boy. You are the reason I don't let my kids play out in the street. The ban will quite rightly start from when yu leave court. Next time you(and others)may not be so luck- so don't be so selfish in future.

I would suspect, unless otherwise stated by the court, that your driving ban begins immediately after the decision is handed down.

If they tell you you are banned at 11.27am that is when your ban starts! Make sure you take someone who can drive your car or taxi fare home. Mine was for speeding tho but ban time still applies

Generally from the date of disqualification, although it can be suspended until you are released from prison, if you go. You should receive a notice of disqualification and that will have a disqualified until date on it to clarify this.
