I've just come back from seeing the midwife who told me i'm 11wks and 5days pregnant. everything was fine except she could not find the heartbeat!!!!

She did pre warn me that she might not be able to find it and might be too early. She does not seem alarmed though

I'm not sure what to think

It maybe to early I remember my midwife checking at around 16weeks and her telling me not to be alarmed if she couldn't detect it as it is still low down and small, she did find it but I think in these quite early stages I wouldn't worry to much, maybe ask to go back just before Christmas when baby had time to grow.
I must say That when she did find the heartbeat I was convinced it was mine she had found, till they told me it was beating to fast, I told them my heart was racing as I was nervous. Just relax i'm sure it'll be fine good luck:o)

some times it is hard to find the heartbeat depending onposition of baby. Don't worry about it you go back in four weeks righ? I'm sure you will hear it then. M&M IS CRAZY!! No body can hear a heart beat at seven weeks. The rule of thunb is twelve weeks. And by the way stay at home is wrong too...I had the same midwife for both of my babies and she did an excellent job. Good luck with everything hun and don't listen to these phsychos saying these horrible things it is simply just to soon to hear it...if she thought something was wrong she would have told you no doc would keep it from you.

It is not at all unusual for there to be difficulty finding a heartbeat with a doppler at your stage of pregnancy, and some practitioners will wait a little longer to try, so they have a better chance of finding it (and a better chance, therefore, of causing unnecessary alarm).

When did you last have an ultrasound (if you have had one)? When is one scheduled?

When is your next appointment with your midwife (I am assuming she will try the doppler again at that time)?

Although it is early, still, to be able to find the heartbeat with many dopplers that are out there, I admit I would insist on an ultrasound to confirm cardiac activity. If nothing else, it will provide peace of mind for you -- and the importance of that should not be underrated!

Best of luck.

I dont think this is unusal, your heartbeat might have been covering the baby's heartbeat?! Im sure there would be a simple explanation as to why but obviously your very worried about this, and worry is no good for your baby so perhaps you should go and see another midwife or doctor just to put your mind at ease?
Good luck!! xx

Don't stress out....it's likely that you'll hear it soon, especially if your midwife is not concerned. Stress doesn't do you or the baby any good. Like others have said, the baby may be in a difficult to hear position, away from the front of your stomach or something. I know what it's like to worry about these things, as I have a 5 month old and fought worry all the time!!! Just try to stay rational, pray, and eat/do things that are good for baby.
Congrats!

It can still be too early, especially if you are overweight or have a tilted uterus. You can wait until next time or if you are nervous or feel like you need to know now, your midwife can order an ultrasound. Or you can go to Fetal Fotos and for $50 they will do a "confirmation of pregnancy" ultrasound and you can see the heartbeat.

That is totally normal as they can't usually hear the heartbeat till about 12 weeks at the earliest.
Sometimes it can be much later than that due to whatever way the baby is lying.
Please don't be worrying, everything will be fine.

I just saw my doctor at 12 weeks today. And we did a fetal heartbeat check. I did ask him, just out of curiosity HOW early you could hear with their little microphone thingy. He said anytime prior to 12 weeks is early.

It also depends on the baby's postion.

SInce you are not 12 weeks yet I wouldn't worry, until your midwife seems worried.

I know its scary- but it's VERY normal that early in pregnancy for them not to be able to hear the heartbeat. At my 12 week appointment my dr couldnt hear the heartbeat- and she explained that it's very normal that they can't hear it- but they had me do a quick vaginal ultrasound the next day just to make sure everything was ok. I'm sure everything is fine! good luck!

Is it not too soon? My midwife wouldn't use the doppler until i was 16 weeks. She said it is very hard to find a heartbeat before then. Try not to worry, i know its hard.
