and other characters don't equate to thier keys, cant work out how to fix this, any suggestions? thanks in anticipation.

It does have a pound sign key, but it types as #, # types as \.

Hmmm, have you tried going in to the control panel on your computer then in to keyboard and made sure its settings are right for whereever you are, all my setting were on the USA one when i first got mine so i did this and changed it to UK it been fine since!

my keyboard doesn't have a pound sign either and it's five years old. But it's not a dell either.

Have you checked your settings for your keyboard? Go to "control panel" and then go to regional settings/options etc, click on that and then check its on the right country for where you are.

it is a laptop or a desktop? its it a laptop u got to order a new keyboard for it. and if its a desktop just use another keyboard and it should work fine.
