Looks and heavy system resources - pay $$$$ and get Mcafee or Norton

Simple yet powerful and light on system resources AVG, Avast, NOD32

Whatever antivirus program you use, it requires regular updating. Then only you are protected.

Simply installing an antivirus software and forgetting about that fetches you nothing.
Updating is the most important if you want full and effective protection from viruses.

Well no in this world is FREE. Though there are some antivirus programs that are free they do not protect PC fully the remove some common viruses not all. For Indian Envornment Quick Heal is best. also Norton is good.

If you want the best, you do NOT have to pay $$$ as someone erroneously stated above.

Avast, AVG, and Nod32 are all free, use very little system resources (as opposed to McAfee or Nortons), and have each been rated #1 at some time or another within the past year by respected software testers such as CNET and Softpedia.

I personally recommend Avast. It has virtually the same detection abilities as both Nod32 and AVG, however, Avast has a much easier to use and better looking user interface than either AVG or Nod32. AVG & Nod32 are just plain ugly (but then again, for A/V software, looks aren't everything).

I have tested and used AVG, ANTIVIR and AVAST, they all work really well and don't slow the system down to a crawl like mcafee and norton. Also unlike norton and mcafee I have never had an issue trying to remove any one of those 3 from a customers computer. I did have some issues with my favourite of the 3 Avast not playing well with ZoneAlarm free firewall, the best software firewall on the market, free or otherwise.

NOD32 by the way isn't free. So that doesn't answer the question.
McAfee, Norton, and PCCillian are all good choices if you want to buy a product, but it really isn't necessary.

Personally, I like the new AOL AntiVirusShield. Don't let the name AOL scare you. AntiVirusShield is made by Kaspersky which is one of top-rated anti-virus vendors in the world.

In recent tests, the most popular free anti-virus, AVG, was only able to detect about 82% of a very large sample of viruses. On the other hand, AntiVirusShield was able to detect better than 99% in the same test.

AOL AntiVirusShield has excellent virus detection rates and is extremely light on using your computer resources. (6mb)

I use avg along with spybot and ashampoo firewall. I have also used Norton Internet Security 2007 and honestly all those free programs have detected almost everything that Norton did, just not all spyware but did detect all viruses.

Nod32 is the best.

It's a great antivirus with antispyware adware removing capability. It's extensively configurable. Consumes less CPU. Suites best for advanced users.

But if you are looking for one click solution. go for Norton or Mcafee. But these solutions has huge performance impact.
