The ring finger is most definitely not wider than the middle finger. Not sure what that poster is trying to say -- he may just be confused.
My ring finger is a size 4.5 and my middle finger is a size 5.25.
If your friend has a size 7 ring finger, her hands are very large. You may have to go up at least whole size if not more. I hope this helps.

You are headed in the wrong direction. The ring finger is bigger than the middle finger, width wise.

The size of her middle finger only matters depending on where she is inserting it.

I would call a local jewelry store near you and ask them what the would recommend. Go to the source! They deal with this question on a regular basis and would be more accurate on answering it for you.
Good Luck
