Pettitte will always be remembered as a great Yankee, helping them capture 4 World Series; however their are some negatives about this deal.

1) The contract: Yankees gave Pettitte a $16 million contract for 2007, with a player option of another $16 million for 2008, which gives him $32 million over two years. The Yankees face a 40%luxary tax on a payroll over $148 million; hence the real price for Pettitte is $22.4 million. The Yankees have enough money to spend, though that amount on a pitcher who turns 35 on June 15?

2) Elbow problems: Last year Pettitte lost his velocity, and in September he needed to take a cortisone shot, though still made 35 starts. That is unlikely to happen again.

3) Performance: Pettitte's ERA rose from 2.39 in 2005 to 4.20 in 2006. Big bump eh? Plus he's moving into the AL East next year after spending three years in the pitching-friendly NL. There are some concerns.

Clemens, will not come back to the AL East. If he pitches again, it will be for Houston. Why? Well being 45 years old, close to home with his family, only pitches during home games majority of the time, pitching vs. less intense lineups, and knowing he will only pitch half the season, making a ton of cash, in turn gives Houston the better chances for Clemens to resign with them if he does not retire.

Overall, Pettite is a great pitcher, whom Yankee fans love. He could succeed in the big city of New York as he has proven in the past. Aside from Wang, Pettitte joins a rotation of older, injury-prone pitchers who are way past their prime such as Randy Johnson, and Mike Mussina.

What is up with everyone and Roger Clemens? He's not even that great of a pitcher anymore. I personally think Randy Johnson is better. The point is not that Clemens needs to come to the Yankees, the point is Petitte is coming to the Yankees! Just forget about Clemens for a second. Look at Petitte's stats. He's amazing and with the Yankees, he's unstoppable. He's a 2 time 20 game winner, freakin'! Petitte will be enough. Besides, there's way too many starters on the Yankees now. Clemens would just add to the controversy. Who would be out of the rotation in his place? Johnson? Mussina? Wang, the 19 game winner? Petitte? Igawa? Pavano?

Well i love Andy Pettite and i was happy when i found out that he was coming to the Yankees. This is his home and were he should stay. Well i don't understand why people don't want Clemens back (i understand the whole retiring and coming back) but he is a furture HOFer and i will love to see him back in Yankee pinstrips. Also, dont worry about his contract, the Yankees will get all the money with his t-shirts, bobblehead dolls and all of the merchansides with his name on it so he pays for himself. and he will not have to return the retirement gifts they gave him

With all bullshit aside, picking up Andy Pettite was a great move by the Yankees. He's a great left-handed pitcher no doubt about it. This is a huge step for the Yankees. After seeing their pitching fail in the 2006 post-season, they need big guns like him. They already addressed this problem by trading Sheff to Detroit for 3 young guns. This is going to help the Yankees return to being that dynasty they once used to be. As far as Clemens goes, he's too old. He's just like Randy Johnson, washed up. I give them both one more year til there done. Its not worth the effort for the Yankees.

I think the Yankees have a very good shot of going to the World Series this year, a place they havent been since Pettite left. But Clemens can stay away for all I care, he should have retired after leaving New York.

Clemens is likely to join the Yanks after the All Star break. The addition of Clemens and Pettite will greatly help the SP of the Ynakees. Since money does not matter to the Yanks either, this is a great move to help them win.

as much as i don't basically like the Yankees, i'm going to be observing this interest (with the mute on) and rooting for the Yankees. This season has long exceeded by using so rapid, and that i'm unable to have confidence that is already going to be torn down so quickly! i became into on no account waiting to pass and get a image of myself interior the stadium. Too many concepts there. i might like the interest to be all Orioles, and that they are in a position to have a 6-0 lead interior the 9th. Then the 1st 2 Yankee batters, whoever they are, will strike out. Then that is going to likely be a slugfest for the Yankees until they tie it up at 6 apiece. After this of course, greater suitable innings! The Orioles will score 5 greater runs interior the fifteenth inning, off Joba. Then the hitters will come by using. as quickly as returned, the 1st 2 will strike out. the 1st one hits a double, and then the 2d hitter hits a triple scoring the guy on 2d. Then a unmarried follows, making the Yanks basically down by using three runs! 2 singles in a row load the bases. and then, pinch hitter Juan Miranda will hit a walk off grand slam and the Yankees will win! can not somebody dream slightly?

I am a die hard Cardinals fan who lives in Texas. I am glad to see Pettite leave the Astros and believe me, he would not have left in Clemons wasn't going to follow him. They have the same agent and the Astros passed on Pettite over 2 million dollars which was less than the Yankees offered. He wanted to stay with Houston and was willing to take less money to do it. This angered him and his agent and so Clemons is likely to follow suit. When, is another story. It may be after the all star break before he joins the Yankees but he is not over the hill. Anyone who thinks that has not been watching him pitch. I will be glad to see the both of them leave Houston. And, off the subject, but the Cubs have signed two bad pitchers in Lilly and Marquis so I am happy for that too. The cards even left Marquis and his era over 6 off the playyoff roster.

Getting Andy back is a BIG PLUS,Now the bigger question is how is Randy,And Carl Pavano gonna do?They need to be healthy also,Andy didn't retire,Clemens however got a nice Hummer from his teammates,to be honest with you, i really don't care if Clemens comes back,I would rather see want these Young pitchers have, that we got from the Tigers,And i'm dying to see what Phil Huges has,Pettitte saw him pitch and said Huges is a young Clemens! I just really want to see better pitching from our team!I also want to see Arod play like the hall of famer he's supposed to be and not a little leaguer.

I think the yankees might be serious about getting past the first round in 2007.

I doubt Clemens would come back, and even if he did it would be no big deal. Clemens is getting old and not as good as he once was.

But adding Andy Pettitte scares me.
I hope The Tigers dont have to face him in the post season. (that's if The Tigers get there).
