Be prepared it's like sitting in a zoo. If you did not get enough of the animatronics @ Disney, they'll finish it off @ Rainforest. A thunderstorm comes through about every 10 -15 minutes. No, silly, you don't get rained on.

If you have ever been to Joe's Crab Shack the food is pretty darn similar, some dishes are exactly the same just with different names. It is alright, but not the best eating you can find there. I actually went to the one at Animal Kingdom this summer, the atmosphere was really fun. We got to sit by the elephants, and yes every 20 minutes or so there is a mock thunderstorm and the animals go a little nuts. It is really quite loud, but if you are going with kids they would probably really enjoy the show. Also, if you do go, banana's foster is about the best dessert EVER!

Rainforest Cafe. A Landry's Restaurant.

I use to work in Downtown Disney, a while back, right across from the cafe. Personally, I don't like the food. They do have quite an eclectic mix of “items” to choose from, but I just haven’t found an item on the menu that suites me. They claim to have “exotic” dishes... they basically take your basic chain items (i.e. burgers and fries or fried shrimp) and add roasted bell peppers and seasonings or coconut; but I think in trying to be “original,” it just comes out wrong.

THEN AGAIN, if you have kids, it’s a GREAT place to eat/visit. Their primary draw is their ambience. It’s a fun spot for kids. They have mechanical animals and the “weather” changes inside the restaurant. Their gift shop is pretty neat; lots of over-priced items but if you don’t buy anything, it’s fun to just mess with the items they sell.

So for great food – Rainforest is a “no.” Try Naples, I luv their food, also found in Downtown Disney or Jazz Kitchen.
As for Ambiance – okay, but you might as well go to the ESPN Zone across the way. They have games, a rock wall, and they don’t try to “spruce” up their menu... it is what it is... burgers and fries and a few pasta and salad dishes on the side to satisfy the “picky” eaters.

Have Fun!

The rainforest cafe is a great place to go eat.. the whole place is set up like a rainforest (with leaves and trees on the cieling and everything!) There is mist, huge tanks of fish, and other really cool stuff in there so it makes you feel like you are really in a rainforest. They even have their own gift shop. Their food is average, but it is such a great experience (especially for kids) so it is worth it. And for dessert, make sure you order a "volcano" for dessert- which is basically a warm delicious brownie w/ icecream that is flaming on the top, and the staff screams "VOLCANO!" as they are bringing it to your table. I totally recommend eating here. Have fun on your trip!

I agree with Alisia. The food is ok...the atmosphere is pretty fun if not a little loud so not great for conversation. Fun to take the kids to as there is a lot to see and take in but a few of the animals in there don't really actually live in the rainforest as far as i know but rather in the savannah or mountains so...take it for what it's worth. Nice to visit once but don't know that i'd go again unless others i was with really wanted to go. Check it out once but go for appetizer or dessert vs. whole meal.

HONEST?
We have one at the Opry Mills Mall, in nashville. It is a great place to visit, to say that you have been there. In all my experiences, I kinda think that the food is Okay.
BUT...
If I was gonna be at Disney, why don't you eat at a place that is known for AWESOME food, then when you decide to have desert, go there, to the Rainforest Cafe-that way, you can say that you have been there, and not overspend, on an over-rated dinner.

It's a really fun place to eat. You have to at least once in your life. The food is pretty good (some will get a wonderful dish, while someone else may get a mediocre dish). It can be pretty loud, and sometimes there are fake animals that may scare some younger kids, but overall, it's definitely worth the experience. You just have to put up with the overpriced gift shop.

They are fun. Very loud - since they simulate the sounds of well, a rainforest. Every 20 minutes or so I think it is there's like a small thunderstorm. Food's good, service is great. Bit pricey, but you pay for the show. Great bar. I've eaten at the one in SF and Disneyland and I'd go back.

It's expensive, but the animals are really cool. It is sort of loud. When we went there in 2003, we ordered an appetizer and four Cokes and it was about $20.

It's fun... the food is okay... it's pretty loud though - lol

Interesting atmosphere... some of the animals start to look pretty real after a while :)
