I've seen the U3 drives that require you to enter a password when inserted. I have another dirve that is not U3. Is there a way to add this password capability? Preferably freeware?

TrueCrypt (http://www.truecrypt.org/). Encrypt the Flash drive filesystem.

if nothing is possible then try this out, make a folder in the drive and keep all the data in that folder only and lock that folder with the softwares provided to lock a folder....

The fine print on the directions for use that came with your drive should tell you how to do that.
