Built in redundancy in our systems, error checking routines, and in many cases, slight errors are insignificant. 'Harmful' is an undefined and non-quantized term.

Most of the harmful genes are recessives, and their carriers are heterozygous. Having one good copy of the gene means that the carrier can survive to reproduce and not display ill effects himself.
