In today's society it seems as though this is the norm, does hooking up involve a realtionship or just a fling?

It's a very loose term that can stand for varying degrees of intimacy (kissing to sex). Generally though it's most used to mean a quick fling or the begining of a fling. Still I could hook up with a girl tonight but I could also continue to see her after that point. Sometimes a hook up leads to more.

My understanding is that involves a casual relationship--friendly but not demanding and with no expectations of the other partner. It's not a fling in the sense that flings are often seen as intense, short-lived, and emotionally high-charged. But it's not a traditional or romantic relationship either.

I do think the term can be viewed as you indicate, but mostly it just means that a person will get back to you, or see you again at some later date or time. Example. Hey there sara, lets hook up again same time tomorrow.O.K.? In that sense, it means to regain contact either via communication or in person.

hooking up can mean a couple of things. it can mean getting with someone or kissing them. it can mean making out. also it can mean having sex. and i feel that if you are not ready than do not do any of them becuase you will end up regreatting it later. also hooking up means a sexual encounter that usually occurs on one occasion involving people who are strangers or acquaintances
