Because you could care less what a stranger has to think of you. The people who are the closest to you are the ones who opinions you take to heart...they actually mean something to you.....thats why it seems that they hurt you more..

people around you know you and may be in their eyes see some thing that they think needs fixing, so they try to do something for you, now if they didn't;t ask you or speak about their thoughts to you it seems like they are trying to make you in to something you are not nor want to be. A total stranger wouldn't take the time nor effort to look at or get to know you , there for not see any thing wrong. To prove my point, how many times have you been out with some one you know, and thought gosh if only they would do some thing about, what ever it is that you believe would be better for them

because people who know you take you for granted and do stupid things. things they know they shouldn't do and say but it's done and said none the less.
