Has anyone noticed that in the "Dilbert" cartoons that his tie is always pointing up the way. It's like some invisible hand is holding the tie up for him.

(That would be a boring job: a tie holder YAWN!)

In a similar vein to what the first answerer said, I always had the impression that it was because Dilbert is not only frustrated on the job because of his inept, ignorant boss, but also sexually frustrated because he is a nerdy engineer and they are not regarded as sexy. His tie symbolizes the fact that he can’t usually get ‘any’.

there was one cartoon where his tie was pointed down...it was after a romatic date...you were supposed to fill in your own blanks...

It does that because he doesn't know how to tie it.
