Hi, what's your printer model? Assuming it's a color inkjet printer, here are some possible things that may have gone wrong which you should check:
a) Both cartridges are installed correctly in the slot. If only the black cartridge is in there, some printers still work but revert to a backup reserve mode which still enables it to print in grayscale.
b) Color cartridge has its nozzle tape still on. Check that it's pulled off before insertion into the carriage slot. Otherwise the cartridge is actually firing but no ink is coming onto the paper because it's blocked by the nozzle tape.
c) Your print settings is set to grayscale accidentally. Check that in your Printer Setup -> Color Options
d) Your color cartridge might be bad, in which case, the printer is also reverting to the backup mode.

If you think your color ink cartridge is full, open a document or picture that has color. Instead of clicking the printer icon to print, click File, Print. A list of printers will come up, click you printer, and check the options to see if it is set to print color. If it is, print the document/picture, and if there is no color your ink cartridge is probably empty.

If It's a Deskjet D2320 It should have come with a #22 ink cartridge. That one should be put on the left side. Then Put a black #21 cartridge on the right. If It's any other kind of printer , I'm sorry, I can't help you.

Go to...Start>Printers & Faxes>Right Click your Printer>Properties>Printing Preferences>Advanced>Adjust the Arrows on your Colour Scales (Right-Hand Side) so they all are in the middle of the Scale.
If this doesn't help visit the Hp website.

We just had the same problem with our printer and come to find out it was just the printer cartridge was bad. Take your cartridge back to what ever store you purchased it from and they should replace it for you. Then it should work. If not then there might be something wrong with your printer itself, you may need to clean it. Good luck.

If it is only a mono printer and you bought it as such, then that is what it is. You can't change it to colour.
