My dear friend, I am an emotional empath. Do you understand what that means? I have yet to decide if I am blessed or cursed. Unfortunately the negative emotions are much stronger than the positive ones. There are a few exceptions, like a woman that has been trying to conceive for a long time finds out she is pregnant! Happy day! Mostly what comes across is sadness and anger. Can you imagine what it is like to run across the path of a man who recently lost his wife & 4 daughters in a drunk driver accident? At least it only comes thru when I am near that person. I do try to empathize with people who are on here when I feel it is appropriate.
But that was not your question. There are an awful lot of people out there who don't care about anyone but themselves. I would like to lend them my "gift" for just one day.

I think i have an over abundance of empathy. Empathy is a hard trait to find in people, not because they don't have it, but because they are too wrapped up in life and theirselves to recognize and express it. I guess for me it is very simple to put myself in the position of another and i feel other people's pain and happiness. Sometimes i wish i was not like this because life can be really hard and it effects me so much. But in other ways it is a blessing because i have been able to be a really good friend to many people because i can relate so well. I was a social worker before hurrican katrina took my job and my empathetic nature helped me work with my teen clients. It also hurt me because i was way too involved with them and i took the work home with me.I am not trying to toot my own horn, but you asked

Most humans have grown immune to empathy, especially if they get a daily dose of news media reporting. In an episode of Gene Roddenberry's "Star Trek", it was stated that the words "can I help" are more important than "I Love You.". I could go with that theory.

Yes I know what it means as well and I do have it, but many people dont. If you find someone with an empathetic nature to them, you are so blessed.

I also know what it means and alas, you will not find it in many people today who are willing to express themselves in this manner. It may be because the situation or topic presents to much sadness to them and they wish to avoid any remembrance of the event or period in order for them to empathize with you.

I believe many people have empathy ... we all share the human experience and found others who have had experiences similar to our own.

Yes, I do! I am a very empathic person. However, I am very aware that the world is full of non empathic individuals. This is a very sad reality within our society. God bless****

People do have empathy, but they also have expectations too. Things like racism and ignorance are inexcusable.
