I think it comes from males' attitude towards such assets. They love them as those were women, hence, call them 'she'

I think it comes from the naming of ships back in the old days. They were always named after women so the tradition sort of stuck with all things mechanical.

I think it`s because usually anything that is pretty: house, car, boat,etc., is referred to as pretty and she`s, because females represent beauty. I don`t know, that was a tough question!!!
