There has been no mention of mutilation or anything similar so this would tend to rule out Jack the Ripper style killings. The likelihood of sexual desire being the motivation seems unlikely as these women were prostitutes and available for a price.

The favourites are therefor:
1. Pimps eliminating independent ladies who do not pay protection.
2. Revenge killing of the class of women. This could be a client who has been infected with AIDS or even a man whose life has been ruined by a relationship with a prostitute. eg. Wife found out and divorced him.
3. My favourite - a religious fanatic 'cleansing' the streets of East Anglia. The bodies stripped to remove evidence, no sexual motive at all.

Psychosis. The research currently being conducted is one of a loop. The question is whether a person who seeks to kill in this manner was born with the part of the brain that controls impulses unresponsive or whether their environment caused their brain to become unresponsive.
It's a tough one. One of the key personality traits of all the serial killers who have ever been interviewed is the lack of remorse. Indeed, the physical inability to understand right from wrong. There are presently a list of indicators that could lead scientists to hypothesise that a child will grow up to be a person who arbitrarily murders. One of them being the torture of animals as a child.
Once again, there is no evidence to take current research as "written in stone". Scientists haven't figured out whether the defect in the brain is a product of nature or environment.
In a nutshell.

They are mentally sick. There is something wrong with their brain.
I started reading about serial killers once and it freaked me out beyond belief. I'm a little paranoid and don't trust people to eagerly. When you go out any where be very aware of what's around you. Killers most often look like nice, normal looking people.

Read 'The Sane Society' by Erich Fromm...

Also take time to read some of RD Laing, especially 'Sanity Madness and the Family if you prefer some insight.

These people aren't born they are shaped. For example we are conditioned into a system which in itself is corrupt. To fit in with our society it has to be agreed upon as to what is normal, and this is all performed by public consensus. So this becomes the condition of the normal man. So to be half out of your mind with worry, or completely stark raving mad is a perfectly normal reaction to a completely abnormal social condition called society.

Serial killers, once more the ghastly episodes unveil in our midst due to someone preying on the weaker sex, and obviously, it's a man or men high on drugs and is definitely sickened by prostitutes. The cowardice behind the killings really sickens me and lives us to wonder as to the motive behind it. Whatever is inciting them to do this will not eradicate prostitution not that I support it, but killing is not the answer.

serial killers have psychological problems that the average person doesn't. That's the short answer. I could write pages and pages on what compels people kill.

Some people are screwed up. Sometimes they're born that way and sometimes, something happens to them.

What is a little scary is that some people just wanna know what it feels like to kill someone. I would guess it's not that great and doesn't really benefit anyone...

There are way too many ways to answer this question to give just one answer. Murdering is a specific behavior, just like brushing your teeth, or speeding. One chooses to engage in the specific behavior, but explaining why they do is nearly impossible without knowing alot about the persons history and parents.

i have read a few books on serial killers and I was disturbed beyond belief for several months after.

You do get a good idea of WHY they do it, though we 'normal' folk can never understand it completely, that is what makes them so interesting.

I just wish that they were something that we didn't have to study, because they are evil beyond comprehension.

people are sick. murder is a disease. people like that honestly are so fcked up in the head, they have no direction. just lost and lonely, so im guessing they take it out on the rest of the world. sad, because if they asked for friendships or cared enough about themselves, they could find help. there are a lot of good people out there willing to help the twisted. most of them dont want the help though.
