Against since you are always at risk to be wrong

When definitive and indisputable evidence is given (DNA, a confession --which may be disputable, but if they're willing to confess, they should be punished anyway for merely wanting to have done something heinous), I think the death penalty is more than acceptable. Now, I'm not talking about killing people over petty crimes like theft and vandalism, I'm talking about mass murderers, rapists, and others who are guilty of crimes against other people.

Why should we, the American taxpaying public, have to support these awful people for the rest of their lives? I know of people who willingly went to Juvy as children so that they could have free food and a bed, because it was better than they could get at home. Do we want to support them as adults, too?

More than just financially, the death penalty is the better option. Lienency can be granted in prisons for things like good behavior. Do we want to chance having these people out in the public again? More than one person has gotten out of prison only to terrorize and harrass again.

While I don't neccessarily believe 'an eye for an eye' is relevant anymore, I do believe that it is in the public's best interest to have particular criminals sentenced to death.

For. The death penalty should be given to chid rapists, terrorists, and serial murderers. I don't want my money to go to supporting these inhuman monsters until they die. I think we should just send them to the death penalty because we are soft on crime. We need to take care of our children, society has been lenient on child rapists by giving them only a couple of years or "rehabiliatition". We need to be tough.

No, I think incarceration is a better all round punishment. Too many grey areas re. the death penalty.

This question has been asked a whole bunch of times. Just search for "capital punishment" or "death penalty" and you'll get oodles of answers.

For it. If you killed someone, why should you spend the rest of your life in a jail that has cable and A/C with the possibility of parole?

I agree with the person above, it needs to be faster and the criminals don't need to get so many chances to appeal it.

For it. If you kill someone you should die in the same manner. Maybe people would think twice before torturing and killing innocent people then. And why keep them on death row for so many years while taxpayers pay to keep them alive? Why not just kill them right after trial?

I would be for it if people could be trusted to go into court without preconceived notions. If the facts are really there to convict a person, great. But so many innocent people get convicted because of emotion.

For, I shouldn't have to work my rear off to pay for someone to sit in prison for the rest of their life, because they can't function in regular society. I already have to pay for all the people on the outside that are on welfare not trying to even better themselves.
I also believe in an eye for an eye. For all those crazy child molesters and mothers who leave their kids in hot cars to die or drown them.....It should be done back to them.

100% in favor. We need to pull the weeds from society's garden before they choke more of our flowers. We should have the trial, the sentencing, and the execution all within one month. Let's save taxpayers dollars and spend them for more worthwhile endeavors.

Against. Its supposed to prevent crime. It doesn't. Its a biblical need for revenge, thats why we have it. What would Jesus think?, the Christians don't even care.
