I just recieved in the mail today a medical bill from a mental health clinic (almost $1,000) and it's been three years since I visited last and have never recieved any invoices prior. Is this fair? What are my rights as far as recieving bills? I know I should call both this clinic and my insurance company to make sure this is not an error but what other steps should I take to protect myself?

No limit that I know of but they're taking a big chance that the address they have is still correct.

I don't believe that there is a federal limit on how long they have to bill you, but they are required to bill the insurance company withing 365 days of performing service. I would call the insurance company first to see when they received the bill. The insurance co is required to send you an explanation of benefits. I guess if no insurance is involved and you don't pay it, they can only post it to your credit for 4 yrs since they used up the first 3 yrs. If you plan on paying it, they have to give you a payment plan. If the payment plan goes over a yr you will be required to provide income of everyone in your household. If you do not plan on paying the bill, do not pay one cent. If you pay even one cent it can stay on your credit report for up to 7 yrs from the last payment made. Hope this helps!

hmmmm..... probably the USA, because, apart from england, they have the most players in their squad that i've heard of (howard, beasley, edu and altidore- i know.... get me lol), i would've supported france (not quite as much as a scotsman in a kilt but frenchman are pretty fit) but they couldnt keep their hands to themselves (i was actually rooting for the rep of ireland after scotland were out grr it's been a bad campaign) so it's USA or italy like last year or brazil like the time before that but really..... A.B.E and i'll be happy lol =D bonus q- levein has impressed me more than i thought he would, he knows the right team, has given players a fresh start (we need boyd etc in the side and are too thin and bare without him), he got the win against the czech rep and has been much more promising than burley. with the addition of promising youngsters (thomson-hearts, wilson- rangers, cairney- hull, etc) coming through the ranks, showing quality and improving older players in the push for places, we can only improve on what has been a dismal few years for the side and hopefully qualify for euro and beyond.... ahh now i'm dreamin =)

You can dispute the bill with the credit reporting agencies like transunion. You should not have to pay the bill due to lack of notification. Check the federal ucc codes. Call transunion and file a dispute
