Pre op testing is usually REQUIRED, and most places want it done within a week of your outpatient procedure. Tell your supervisor that you need to leave to have your pre-op testing done. This could be anything including, blood work, x-rays, MRI or CAT scan. You of course can't determine how long your "facility" of choice is going to take to run the "tests" and so you're safe asking for the afternoon off...By the way...good job on picking something medical! Even if your supervisor is suspicious he HAS to believe everything you tell him! Due to HIPAA (The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) he can't find out any information from your "hospital" or "doctor" or even your insurance company!

Oh the joys of lying, all it takes is one call to the outpatient facility and you are toast!
Why do you have to tell lies in order to get out early on a Thursday and then compound it with something that could easily be discovered. Now this being said your best bet is to tell him you have to get some business taken care of pre-op and you will need the afternoon to get it done.
Good luck to you just don't make it a pattern as you will most certainly be discovered one time or another and hell it might well cost you your job.

Always bring a bottle of nicidimide (niacin pills) with you. Take a few and an hour later your face will be red and flushed. Then just go to your boss with a red face and say "im not feeling well" and he will undoubtedly let you go. Dont act too sick or they will send you to their workers' comp doctors for a check. Also,. lick your palms. Sweatty palms is a good non specific symptom.
I dont know how i know all this as I have perfect attendance.

Call in sick.

Heather B. has a good answer but make sure you keep a record of your "excuses" so you don't re-use that one or "tell" on yourself accidentally. Not good to lie or miss work unless there is a serious, legitimate reason.

Why don't you tell him that your appointment got bumped to Thursday and you are sorry about the short notice, but there is really nothing you can do.

Tell him that you have cramps, and that you get really bad periods. He's a man, so he won't ask any questions! Men HATE to talk about that stuff. If that doesn't work, start crying. Men don't like that either!
